Firearm Instruction, Responsibility, and Safety Training (FIRST)— is the NRA’s response to the public’s need for a firearm orientation program for new purchasers. We will instruct you in the knowledge, skills and attitude necessary to own and use a handgun in a low stress, comfortable environment.

Classes are limited to a maximum of 4 students per instructor.

Hands-on introduction for the safe handling and operation of one specific pistol action type, including the fundamentals of shooting, cleaning, and maintenance of your handgun.

Students will receive the Basics of Pistol Shooting handbook, NRA Gun Safety Rules brochure, Winchester/NRA Marksmanship Qualification booklet, FIRST Steps Course completion certificate.

The course is 3-4 hours long and includes a classroom portion and a live fire portion.

The live fire portion of this class can satisfy the proficiency requirements for the CHL class so you don’t have to qualify twice.

You will need to bring your own firearm (in a gun bag or box please) and 100 rounds of ammunition for this class unless you make prior arrangements with ADFT. Please do NOT bring ammunition into the classroom.
**If you do not have your own handgun, you can rent one from us for the class ($30 rental incl. 100 rounds of ammunition).**

If renting a handgun from us: $90
